With leisure travel on the rebound, it may seem like everything is costing extra and taking more effort to secure a reservation, especially for car rentals. Yet the airline industry continues to roll out discounted airfare and attractive package deals, enticing passengers back to the skies.
With the heightened interest in vacation destinations there are some delays blamed on crew shortages, so travelers are advised to review their airline status prior to departure. For those willing to brave airport lineups and wait times, the deals may offer a big payoff.
This week’s airline news includes fare sales from Alaska and Southwest, and discounted flight and hotel packages from American and Delta.

Alaska fare sale, expanded menus
Alaska Airlines is continuing their promotion as “the official airline of rescheduled events,” with Seattle one-way fares starting as low as $69 per person, but the deals won’t last forever. Purchase these discounted tickets by 11:59pm (PST) on August 09, 2021, with at least 21 days prior to departure.
Sample one-way fares include Seattle (SEA) to Boise (BOI) or San Diego (SAN) for $69, Seattle to Fresno (FAT) or Reno (RNO) for $79, and Seattle to Tucson (TUS) for $99.
Alaska has also recently announced fresh fare in the air is back with an expanded first class and main cabin selection of meals, snacks and drinks. Guests in all cabins may use online preordering to select meals and snacks in advance of their flight.
“We’re excited to welcome our guests back on board and want them to have a great experience with us,” said Todd Traynor-Corey, managing director of guest products at Alaska Airlines. “We’ve put a lot of thought and planning into safely adding additional food and beverage service on our flights, while getting back to fresh and local menu items that our guests love.”

American Airlines vacation package deals
American Airlines has some enticing flight and hotel package offers for passengers flying out of Seattle.
Sample roundtrip main cabin flights with a hotel stay include Seattle (SEA) to Las Vegas (LAS) for $215 per person, Seattle to Nashville (BNA) for $269 per person, and Seattle to Madrid (MAD) for $713 per person. Package pricing is based on two-person hotel occupancy.

Southwest fall fare sale
Southwest has new fall fares available for as low as $49 each way. Tickets must be purchased by August 12, 2021, for Continental U.S. travel dates through December 16 and Hawaii travel dates through December 15, 2021. A 21-day advance purchase is required, and some date restrictions apply.
Sample one-way fares include Seattle (SEA) to San Francisco (SFO) for $64, Seattle to Phoenix (PHX) for $72, and Seattle to Los Angeles (LAX) for $74. Sample one-way fares to Hawaii include Seattle to Maui (OGG) for $198.
